Industrial Acid Salts
Industrial acid salts are used to provide superior degreasing and metal surface preparation for plating and metal finishing processes. Therefore, acid salts are critical to pretreatment, electroplating, and metal finishing applications.
Our solutions are available in the following packaging sizes:
- 5-gallon pails
- 55-gallon drums
- 300-gallon totes
Acid Salt 829
A dry powder containing acid salts and surface active agents. For use with water on all metal as a replacement for mineral acids.
Usage:
- Concentration: 2 – 32 oz. per gallon. (15 – 360 g per L)
- Temperature: 140 – 190° F (60 – 88° C)
- Time: 15 seconds to 5 minutes
Solution Makeup:
- To make the solution, fill tank 2/3 full of water and stir in dry salts until powder is dissolved.
- After Acid Salt 829 is added to the solution, adjust the level and temperature to operating conditions.
Acid Salt 839
A dry powder containing acid salts and surface active agents. For use with water on all metal as a replacement for mineral acids.
Usage:
- Concentration: 2 – 32 oz. per gallon. (15 – 360 g per L)
- Temperature: 60 – 180° F (60 – 82° C)
- Time: 15 seconds to 5 minutes
Solution Makeup:
- To make the solution, fill tank 2/3 full of water and stir in dry salts until powder is dissolved.
- After Acid Salt 839 is added to the solution, adjust the level and temperature to operating conditions.
Mirapic AS-839L
A liquid version of Acid Salt 839. It is a blend of acid salts and surfactants. Used for activating steel, copper alloys, and zinc. Unlike conventional mineral acids, dilution with water products produces less heat. Normal precautions when working with mineral acids should be observed.
Usage:
- Concentration: 10 – 100% by volume.
- Temperature: 60 – 180° F (16-82° C)
- Time: 15 seconds to 5 minutes
Activator 34
A dry powder containing acid salts and surface active agents. Activator 34 is for use with water on all metal as a replacement for mineral acids. Activator 34 is very effective on zinc die cast alloys, tin, lead, leaded brass, bismuth alloys, white metals, and beryllium copper.
Usage:
- Concentration: 4 oz. per gallon. (30 g per L)
- Temperature: Room temperature
- Time: 15 seconds to 5 minutes
Solution Makeup:
- To make a solution, fill tank ⅔ full of warm water between 110 – 120° F (43 – 49° C).
- Slowly dissolve the total amount of Activator 34 required for the recommended concentration.
- The temperature of the solution will lower.
- The temperature of the solution will lower during mixing.
- If the temperature falls below 65° F (18° C), the immersion time of the work will increase significantly.
- It may be necessary to use warm water to prevent this.
- It is not recommended using higher concentrations to prevent longer immersion times as doing this will result in greater drag-out losses.
How To Choose Acid Salts For Metals?
Removing rust, heat treat scale, and activating the surface of your part in metal finishing processes is critical for any metal finishing application.
Often used to substitute hazardous liquid mineral acids, acid salts for metals are safe to handle, non-fuming, will not pickle the base metal, and require no special warehousing.
Chautauqua Chemicals liquid and powder acidic salts will improve your process and deoxidize and activate your part for further finishing.
A Quality acid salt solution should:
- Remove stains, scale, oxides, and smut
- Activate the metal parts for further finishing
